Rincon

Rincon is the end of the road for sailors in the Golfo Dulce.  It is as deep as you can go.

Unfortunately we didn’t really find this one that great.  The anchorage is nice enough and this is one of the few places you can get supplies other than in Golfito.  The big downside is that the main access road for the OSA Peninsula runs right past the anchorage and you get all the associated road noise.  Delivery trucks are either using engine brakes or revving back up to regain momentum.  It really spoils the mood.

If engine brakes and road noise don't bother you it's otherwise a great stop.

We did manage to make the best of it though.  We took the dinghy into the mangroves and spotted a Toucan and a variety of other birds.  We took the dinghy to shore and walked along the side of the road to get to the restaurants and the Pulperia.

The road wasn’t really designed for pedestrians though so sometimes you find yourself uncomfortably close to some of the traffic going by.  There was also an overly territorial dog at one of the houses that was by the road.  Lots of running up to us growling and barking.  It never nipped or bit anyone but it wouldn't be fun if you were afraid of dogs.

Anchoring

Anchor Depth – 42ft

We anchored near the southern end of the bay.  It goes from deep to shallow really quickly.  The first time we anchored our swing radius allowed us to swing over into the mud.  We ended up anchoring a little farther and a little deeper.  We also were at only 3:1 to keep our swing radius down.  There is very little wind or swell here so we were fine with that.

Prevailing wind/swell

You are at the head of the Golfo Dulce here and very protected.  We had very little wind or swell.

Water temp and Clarity

Clarity wasn't that great at about 5ft.

Dinghy Landing

In the northwest corner of the anchorage there is a boat launch area.  This is one of the few places you can actually get to shore.  Everywhere else the jungle or mangroves come right down to the waterline.

Garbage

No

Groceries

The store is a bit of a walk down the road and there isn't a whole lot there.  There was a handful of potatoes, carrots and onions but not much other fresh stuff.  It was a good place to get a few more mixers for cocktails though.  :-)

Eating Out

Picture
We walked up the road and stopped for a bite at the Marisqueria Vista al Mar.    It will probably look empty when you get there but someone will come down within a few minutes and take your order.  It was a cute little spot, the ceviche was good and the prices weren't too bad.  We would be happy to go there again.

ANNOYANCES
