CREW Responsibilities
Here on Liquid we are looking to share what cruising really is with interesting people.
The main thing to consider is that Liquid is not a “charter boat”. You are signing up as crew on an ocean passage, not a luxury cruise.
You should expect to have real responsibilities and to be a contributing member to our team.
It's a Working Passage
You’ll be expected to do some or all of the following
Don't worry if don't already know how to do all of this. We are happy to teach you!
Safety
We take safety very seriously offshore and will go over the safety stuff we have in place before we leave port.
Some of the basics include:
NO...
Food
It is not possible to fix different meals for each person.
You are responsible to eat what the cook serves.
The food will be nutritious, interesting and as varied as possible. There will also be a snack bin available if you are hungry between meals.
However, If you have special dietary needs, an above average appetite or are very selective about what you are willing to eat this will not be a fit for you.
Teamwork
We closely monitor the whole crew's ability and health and assign tasks accordingly. Please respect our decisions, but speak up if you feel left out or in over your head!
You are responsible for determining your own level of comfort or ability and accepting that others may not be at the same level.

Watchkeeping
- The person on-watch will be responsible to wake up the next watch 15-minutes before they’re on – ask if they want hot water made for tea or coffee!
Weather
- We choose our routes based on seasons (ie not sailing in hurricane season where there are hurricanes!), but once we head offshore, we get what we get. Sometimes it’ll be wet and uncomfortable and even pretty crappy. You will still continue to have all your regular responsibilities even if conditions suck.
- You might encounter heavy weather, uncomfortable conditions, seasickness, sleep deprivation and constant motion. This is all part of the deal.
- You are responsible for happily accepting whatever weather we get.
Below decks
- Each person will be assigned a berth. You are responsible for sleeping only in your berth.
- Each person will get their own ‘stuff’ locker adjacent to your bunk (about 16x16 inches - think carry-on storage bin size on an airplane). You are responsible for keeping your "stuff" in your berth or in your locker.
- Please remember that even at 50ft on deck Liquid is not that big! You won’t have much privacy onboard, and will be living in close quarters in challenging conditions.
- You are responsible for keeping all areas clean and tidy.
- Quiet hours are from 9pm to 9am
- You are Responsible for being as quiet as possible during Quiet Hours to allow others to sleep undisturbed.
Miscellaneous other information
- Sailing to a schedule offshore can sometimes be challenging - we try to account for weather delays in our route plan but are at the mercy of nature.
- The passage itinerary is subject to change due to circumstances beyond our control. These may include weather, sea conditions, customs clearance, national holidays and natural disasters.
- You are responsible for being flexible with your schedule accepting when things are beyond our control.
- We have no TV. If you like watching movies on your off time you will need to bring your own.
- If you are watching a movie or listening to music on your own device you must use headphones.
- We are not able to entertain you on your off watch.
- You are responsible for self entertainment when needed.
Post Passage
- We’ll all clean the boat from stem to stern, above decks and below – that is, after a celebratory beverage or two!
- Leave comments and constructive criticism in our Past Crew Comments Book
- Make sure we get you signed ‘off’ the boat with customs, immigration and the port Captain.
- You are responsible for making sure that both you and the boat are ready to move on to the next adventure.
If you can't deal with your responsibilities....
- If you exhibit socially unacceptable or offensive behavior or are uncooperative to the general detriment of the spirit of the passage, you will be repatriated to your home city at your own expense, from the first port where transportation can be arranged.
