Punta Leona

Punta Leona was ok.

It wasn't great though and it could get really rolly at high tide when the swell could get over the reef protecting the bay.
Water clarity varied wildly from less than 5 ft to 20+.

It can also get really busy if you are here on a weekend.  We arrived on a Thursday and had the bay to ourselves but by Saturday this little bay was packed with boats.  There were jet skis, water-skiers, and lots of random mayhem.

There were also a bunch of small mooring balls near the northern end of the resort to be aware of if you come in at night.  They are mostly out of the way and seem to be for day use only.  They don't really interfere with the anchorage area.
Picture
We went ashore and walked around a bit.  We had seen a small store on Google maps and wanted to see what they had.  As we approached we saw that the store was behind the gate for the all inclusive resort and there was a guard controlling access.  He wouldn't even let us in to look inside.

It was also the weekend so the resort was super busy so maybe that had something to do with it.  You may have more luck if you arrive mid week.

We also tried
snorkeling near the point with mixed success.  The visibility wasn't that great at 10-15ft and we didn't see very much until we got almost to the tip of the point.  At that point the waves crashing over the rocks made the snorkeling less enticing.

Anchoring

Anchor Depth – 16ft

We anchored near the southern end of the bay.  Good holding.  At high tide it can get pretty little rolly.  Maybe if there was a smaller swell running or if you could anchor in a little tighter it wouldn't be an issue.

Water temp and Clarity

Temperature was in the mid 80's.   Clarity was all over the place at about 5ft sometimes and over 25ft others.

Dinghy Landing

Picture
We landed near the northern end of the resort just south of the small mooring balls.  There was some small surf but nothing too daunting.  We used a light pole to lock the dingy to.  You could also land south of the resort just watch for rocks at that end.

Garbage

Picture
Lots of garbage bins and even recycling available on the path in the trees in front of the resort.

Groceries

Picture
The store you see by the beach on google maps is for the resort patrons only.  There is another one down the road a bit.  Take the road that provides public access to the beach.  The mini super is a short walk down the road on the west side of the resort.

ANNOYANCES

It did get a little rolly at high tide.
It gets very busy on the weekend.
There are also very bright white lights for the soccer field at night pointed out into the anchorage..
